Getting to Amsterdam
A short guide for out-of-town guests. If you're flying in from the US or UK, this is what we'd tell a friend.
The wedding falls on Memorial Day weekend, and we'd love for you to make a proper holiday of it in Amsterdam. If you can swing it, plan to arrive by Thursday, May 27, 2027 — that gives you a day to adjust to the time change, settle in, and start exploring the city before the weekend gets going.
When to book
If you think you'll be able to make it, we'd recommend booking your lodging as soon as you can. Many hotels are fully refundable, but Airbnb cancellation policies vary by listing — check the specific terms before you reserve.
For flights, we recommend booking by the fall. The wedding falls over Memorial Day weekend, and flights to Amsterdam tend to get more expensive the closer you get to the date.
Flights
Fly into Amsterdam Schiphol (AMS). It's one of Europe's busiest hubs — direct flights from most US and UK cities.
- KLM, Delta, United, and JetBlue all fly nonstop from the US East Coast
- British Airways and KLM run frequent short-hops from London
- Consider arriving Thursday, May 27 — you'll want a day to shake off jet lag
From the airport to the city
The Sprinter train from Schiphol to Amsterdam Centraal takes ~17 minutes and runs every few minutes. About €5–6 one-way; buy with a contactless credit card at the yellow OV gates.
An Uber runs €40–55 depending on traffic. The train is faster and easier.
Getting around
- The city center is compact and walkable
- Trams and the metro accept contactless credit cards and Apple Pay. See the GVB route map to plan ahead.
- Bikes are the local way to get around — rent one if you're comfortable riding in a city.
